Culture Namji Dowajo, Cameroon
End of XIXth - beginning of XXth century
Wood, pearls and skin
H.: 30; W: 10.5; Thickness: 7 cm

It differs from a simple doll toy by its large pearl set. Indeed, its trunk is covered with polychrome glass beads. This ornament continues to the neck. A pendant necklace of seeds covered with skin and ankle bracelets finish dressing the doll.
Namji Dowajo dolls are identifiable by their particular geometry: the shoulders and hips are angular, the head and neck slender. They were carried on the backs of women, like real children. They promoted the fertility of women. The wood was carved by the blacksmith while the colorful ornament left to the women.
