Object description :

"Two Engravings "
This copperplate aquatint engraving, the original wash hand painted with, is originally a drawing by the painter Jacques Louis David (1748 - 1825) "Le oath du Jeu de Paume" started in 1790 and left unfinished in 1793. This engraving is accompanied by a second representing all the important participants of this assembly. This second engraving is often missing and has been cleaned by a professional. In 1820 David cedes to Daniel Isoard de Martouret the right to engrave his Jeu de Paume which engages the engraver Jean Pierre Marie Jazet (1788 - 1871) to prepare the plate Michel Stapleaux fils ensures the edition of the engraving in 1822.
