Object description :

"Willem Van Den Bundel (1575–1655). Landscape With Hunter And Halberdier"
Oil on oak panel (2 boards joined) Presented in its original frame in blackened molded wood and gilded acanthus leaf frieze. Total dimensions: 72 x 88 cm The painter shows us here an animated landscape, we are on the outskirts of a village. In the right part a seated hunter holding a hare, conversing with a halberdier; in the background, a house seems to emerge from the foliage and a young woman dressed in red and a large white apron receives a traveler on her doorstep. The left of the composition opens onto a path taken by a horseman followed by villagers heading towards a church. But here, it is nature, abundant, profuse with these large trees with foliage ranging from soft green to golden brown that gives all its importance to this superb landscape with its abundant birds crossing a beautiful blue sky. Willem van den Bundel (1575–1655) This very interesting painter is unfortunately poorly documented. We know that he was born in Brussels and became a landscape painter, possibly as a pupil of Gillis van Coninxloo (Antwerp, 1544 - Amsterdam, 1606) who witnessed his marriage in Delft in 1600. He moved to Amsterdam 1607-1620, but returned to Delft as a member of the Guild of Saint Luke during the years 1623-1654. He is one of the Flemish painters settled in Holland. Reference book: Flemish Painters in Holland by Jan Briels, Fond Mercator 1987 Many museums present works by Willem van den Bundel in their collections. Very good state of conservation.
