Bou Saâda is a town located south-east of Algiers. It is also nicknamed "city of happiness", or even "door of the desert" being the oasis closest to the Algerian coast.

Édouard Herzig, orientalist painter and French caricaturist was born in 1860 in Neuchatel, Switzerland and died in 1926 in Algiers.
He came to Algeria at a very young age and settled in Kabylia. He also carried out many projects of rugs, fabrics, and furniture whose patterns derive directly from Arab art.
He moved to Paris in 1914 to follow the education of his daughters at the National School of Fine Arts, before returning to Algeria in 1918.
His work will be unanimously recognized and made popular, on the occasion of the 'Exhibition of decorative arts in Paris in 1925 (Algeria pavilion).

Listed in the Bénézit and the dictionary of artists of Algeria of Cazenave.
Condition: Good condition, normal wear on the pretty orientalist wooden frame.
