Object description :

"Portrait Her Serene Highness Marie Victoire d'Arenberg (1714-1793). "
Portrait of Princess Marie Victoire d'Arenberg (1714-1793). Oil on canvas in rectangular shape, re-lined and mounted on a frame with keys set in a neoclassical style frame in gilded wood decorated with stripes of pearls and hearts. Presumed portrait of Her Serene Highness Marie Victoire d'Arenberg, Margravine of Baden-Baden. She is represented seated in a gilded wooden armchair in front of a sheath where her crown is placed on a red cushion with gold braid and pompoms, on a theatrical background enhanced by curtains set ablaze with elegant light red pleats, with the bust turned slightly to the right, the face full-on, directed towards the horizon. His Serene Highness is presented wearing a perfectly powdered wig dressed in a gray silk dress in lace and turquoise and emerald knots on which on the left breast is tied with a black ribbon the medallion of the Order of the Star Cross of the Holy Roman Empire. This medallion of the Star Cross allows us to identify with certainty Her Serene Highness Marie Victoire d'Arenberg, Margravine of Baden-Baden. The Star Cross is an order reserved for women from whom sixteen quarters of nobility were required, both on the paternal and maternal side. Order created in 1668, whose grand mistress was the Empress of the Holy Empire, then of Austria-Hungary and granted until November 1918. Only six women were received there during the 18th century, including Her Serene Highness Marie Victoire d ' Arenberg, Margravine of Baden-Baden on December 7, 1735. The other five were, Princess Josèphe-Anne d'Arenberg, Princess Adélaïde d'Arenberg, Anne-Charlotte de Lorraine Abbess of Remiremont and Mons, Countess Thérèse de Richecourt and Marquise de Tissona de Crescentin and Princess Elisabeth Philippine Claudine de Hornes but only Her Serene Highness Marie Victoire d'Arenberg, Margravine of Baden-Baden matches the facial features of the portal. Dimensions: Frame height 103cm, width 89cm - Frame height 91cm, width 77.5cm.
