Object description :

"James Coignard (1925 - 2008), Original Etching, 6 Juxtaposed Brass, Numbered And Signed"
A more figurative and dramaturgical composition by James Coignard, superimposing six sketches featuring sketched characters or only their faces. The juxtaposition of the six coppers like so many boxes, and the very delimiting mark of their tank, make this print with embossing read like a comic strip. Each character is finely drawn, shaded with black pencil, then seemingly engraved with drypoint. In each of the brass instruments, the character (s) are accompanied by a bubble which accentuates the narrative and generic effect affiliating it with the comic strip. This bubble is filled with messy letters that are intentionally hard to read drowned out without a very graphic ink blue. Letters (CWB for example) or number (2) punctuate - each of these illustrations invented by Coignard. A poetic rebus which is reminiscent of the Shadocks in another register, whose long heron legs evoke the mysterious characters of Dagger.
