"Rare Direct Wood Cut "the Apocalypse" Auguste Houillon"
signed and dated 1940
it includes a handwritten mention under the base "apocalypse of the world war 1940 - 1944"

Painter and sculptor, he was born in Baccarat in 1885. He entered the Manufacture at the age of 13 as an apprentice. His remarkable disposition made him admit to the School of Drawing which the Crystal kept. In turn glassmaker, tailor then engraver in the Manufacture. After the war in 1921, he took over the artistic direction of the Cristallerie de Nancy. He continued to sculpt crystal with a chisel and created many models in glass paste in collaboration with Amalric Walter. From 1931, he devoted himself entirely to sculpture, then in 1937 he became Artistic Director of the Lemberg Crystal and obtained the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”. In 1940, he emigrated to Vannes le Chatel and became Artistic Director of the Cristallerie then when he reached retirement age, he settled in Nancy where he died.
