"Louis XVI Pedestal Table With Tilting Octagonal Top, 18th Century"
Elegant octagonal pedestal table, with tilting top in lemon tree veneer in a mahogany frame, surrounded by a brass gallery. The curved legs are joined by a fluted column, supporting turned base adorned with a chiseled bronze ring.

Parisian work.

End of the Louis XVI period.

A comparable piece in the Mobilier National collections, inv. GME-13874-000.

The Encyclopedia of DIDEROT and D'ALEMBERT (1751-1772) says of him that "his convenience is to be transported wherever one wants". Also the pedestal tables were fitted with wheels, absent here. Side table, this piece of furniture becomes, depending on the time of day, a tea table, writing table or torch holder.
