Very elegant shepherdess in molded, carved and painted beech.With a flat shouldered back, decorated with foliage and flowers,
it rests on arched feet.
Stamp of Mathieu Bauve, carpenter received master in 1754.
Louis XV period.

Mathieu BAUVE or DEBAUVE (died around 1786).
Carpenter in seat. Mathieu Bauve, was received at his master's degree on August 1, 1754 and moved to rue de Cléry under the sign of the "Saint Esprit".
He was a difficult character, who had a reputation for "despising and insulting all his neighbors". Several had quarrels with him, in particular his colleagues Boulard, Lebas and Delanoix.
We found a receipt from this carpenter for 2 armchair wood that he had made for one of his clients, the Chevalier de Villefranche, and for which he obtained, following a lawsuit, the sum of 314 pounds.
We know of many and magnificent seats signed with his hallmark.
He mainly produced Louis XV chairs, imposing, whose perfect execution sometimes contrasted with the beauty of the lines. T
he large ceremonial armchairs and “à la Reine” armchairs were richly carved with flowers and had daring and unusual shapes.
On the other hand, his Louis XVI models have on the whole a more limited value.
In 1786, after his death, his widow succeeded him for one or two years.
