Object description :

"Cupid By Léonard Agathon"
Bust carved in Carrara marble, vintage early twentieth, known under the title "Amour chilly". It represents Cupid (a quiver on the shoulder) with his face turned to his right. The name of the author A. LEONARD is inscribed on the base which is decorated with a plant motif. Remarkable state of presentation. A similar model appears on p.211 in the reference work: Art-Déco by Bryan Catley. Léonard Van Weydeveld (known as Agathon) 1841/1923 naturalized French sculptor of Belgian origin was born in Lille, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in this city and continued his training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His sculptures were exhibited at the Salon from 1868 to 1916. Many of his works contributed to the development of the Art-Nouveau movement, he received numerous awards including the Legion of Honor.
