Important Art Deco bronze sculpture signed J.CORMIER (Joseph CORMIER 1869-1950 aka joe Descomps pseudonym used for other sculptures) foundry stamp "Susses Freres fondeur Paris" with the mention Cire Perdue. Elegant naturalistic subject featuring a naiad seated on a natural mound with a panpipe and a scepter placed near her while a couple of turtledoves embrace in the background. The set rests on a sea green marble counter-base. Good general condition, dimensions: 72 cm long X 38 cm high X 20 cm deep. Joseph CORMIER was born January 18, 1869, died April 24, 1950, Joseph-Jules-Emmanuel Descomps became Joseph Cormier after the First World War. Sculptor from Auvergne, student of Louis Auguste Hiolin, Joe Descomps or Joseph Cormier has also tried various artistic techniques such as drawing, watercolor, painting and ceramics. Very renowned sculptor, his favorite subject was the female nude, a subject that he was able to enhance by sculpting mainly bronze but also ivory.
