He studied under the guidance of Armand Beauvais (1840-1911), who in turn was a pupil of Jean-Louis Gérôme (1824-1904), one of the official painters of the 19th century French state. Beauvais is an important landscape painter and transmits to the young Duchemin the fundamental principles in the treatment of perspective vision and mastery in the use of color and light.
After his apprenticeship, Duchemin began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français, the traditional Parisian institution, organized annually under the supervision of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts professors who formed the jury delegated to decide unquestionably the admission of the artists. His paintings are constantly admitted to the Exhibitions; since 1897 he has also been a corporate member of the Salon and in 1908 received an honorable mention.
In the Thirties Duchemin exhibited at the famous Societé des Amis des Arts d'Anger, which since the beginning of the twentieth century organized, in addition to important international art exhibitions (among the guests Cézanne, Rousseau, Kandinsky, just to name a few ), notable theatrical and musical events.
Duchemin's style is very close to romantic naturalism (the period in which the painters of the Ecole de Barbizon indicated the road of escape towards the countryside, painting with a naturalist spirit, beyond classicism and epic representations is not far away), but it is greatly affected by the teachings and discoveries of the Impressionists who, starting from the second half of the nineteenth century, were experimenting with new techniques and the chromatic variations of light.
Duchemin is concerned with representing the colors of nature perceived in the open air. To get the vibrations of natural light, he applies the color in small touches. In this way he obtains exciting landscapes, through which he is able to perceive the variations of the atmosphere at various times of the day: at dawn, in broad daylight, at dusk. The places where Duchemin most loved to paint are the countryside landscapes around his native village, Segré, in the Maine-et-Loire department.

The painting is in good condition.
