Guillaume Roger gives us here a picture full of charm. A southern atmosphere where you can feel the heat of the middle of the day in streets empty of people except for a character dressed in black, sitting in the shade of his house. An opening, in the alley on the right, takes us towards the sea, a small blue rectangle. The luminous pink of the facade of the house bathed in light brightens the scene. A post-impressionist touch, impasto to paint the foliage of the trees bring relief to the canvas.
Guillaume Roger is a watercolorist, pastellist, painter of genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, seascapes. He studied with Gérôme and began to paint in 1892. This Parisian of origin painted a lot in the south of France, particularly on the French Riviera for which he produced illustrations which were used for his promotion through posters.
