"Japanese Lacquer Chest (edo-1680) On Its Console End Of The 17th Century In Golden Wood"
Lockable travel trunk in Japanese lacquer with gold decoration on a black background. It opens from above using large hinges in cut and engraved brass to discover a compartmentalized interior in Aventurine lacquer, that is to say a lacquer process sprinkled with gold glitter. The top, the facade and the sides feature a lakeside landscape of pagodas, mountains and trees carved in niwaki. The whole dotted with sailboats of wild geese. The back decor is different, only five flower heads? decorate the panel. Side pre-emption handles, very nice cut-out and gilded bronze keyhole. The locksmith works Our chest rests on its carved and gilded wooden console decorated with acanthus leaves, windings on a background of fine braces. the belt is carved on three sides and the upper part is recessed to receive the chest. The four legs are in facing consoles resting on the ground by damping molded squares. Our chest is a refined collector's item perfectly illustrating the appeal of Asian art by the nobility of the Ancien Régime.
