Portrait of a barge in Auvers sur Oise (?) Along the towpath by Léon De Bastard (1855-1925) signed lower right Empire gilt frame with palmettes old restorations (see photos on back and details)
height 25 cm, width 33 cm without frame
Léon Bastard was born in Paris in 1855. Painter and engraver, he was a pupil of Guillement. He regularly sent to the Salon from 1879 to 1894 landscapes and engravings. Around 1880, he came to Auvers where he lived in rue de Montcel. He takes frequent walks to Parmain where he will perform in particular precise etchings and some paintings (two of them are kept at the Senlecq museum). He died in Auvers on April 1, 1925, and is buried there.
