"Marble Bust Of A Roman Emperor From XIX Eme Century"
Marble bust of a Roman emperor with a laureate head dating from the first half of the 19th century.
the bust is carved in white Carrara marble and is adorned with a breastplate with piastres motifs the right shoulder being capped with a finely worked lion's muzzle and reminiscent of the skin of the Nemean lion worn by Hercules and allowing deification the emperor.
a knot on the left shoulder retains a chlamys.
the face is in red marble which is reminiscent of the color of porphyry, the color is very close but without the feldspar crystals.
On the other hand, it is a very hard marble.
the face is fine sculpture and also recalls certain faces of the Caesars.
Its head is laurel and the laurel wreath is very finely worked.
the face is powerful and almost severe, dry and fine. the alliance of the two marbles is the most beautiful effect.
a very beautiful bust inspired by antiquity.
Italian work from the 19th century.
