Attributed to Francois-Maurice Roganeau (1883-1973). Study for the illustration of Bucolics and Georgics by latin poet Virgile, edited by Henri Laures in 1913. It depicts the two shepherds Menalcas and Damoetas in their poetic contest arbitrated by Paleamon. 41.2 x 29.5 cm at sight, with frame 53.5 x 41.5 cm.
