Emile Barau was born on August 11, 1851 in Reims and died around 1930.

He is a landscape painter After having studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under the direction of Jettel and Gérôme, he went to work in Holland and Denmark.

He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français where he obtained the honorable mention in 1883; Paysages Islettes, and at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts, of which he has been a member since 1890 and in which he participates until 1930.

He obtained a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris, with two panels : Morning and evening. He was promoted knight of the Legion of Honor in 1895.

He shows a predilection for the landscapes of Champagne.
