Charles Viaud (Nantes, 1920-1975) is one of the natural sons of Pierre Loti.
He became known as a marine painter and illustrator, studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and was one of those who invested in the creation of the Musée de la Pêche in Concarneau whose he was the first curator in 1961 and also one of the decorators.

Charles Viaud exhibited his marine paintings in Bretagne (Nantes, Brest, Quimper) but also in Rio de Janeiro and San Paolo.
Encounter with a three-masted barque in deep sea, gouache painting on paper, signed lower right "Charles Viaud", is representative of the style of Charles Viaud, decorative but always precise in the representation of boats and the world of the sea .
