Arthur du Passage is a French sculptor and illustrator born June 24 1838 and died February 1, 1909. Arthur du Passage was born in the castle of Frohen le Grand, son of Édouard, count of Passage, and Sidonie Perrot de Fercourt. A former student of Saint-Cyr, he began a career as a cavalry officer while following sculpture lessons in the studio of Antoine Louis Barye and that of Pierre Jules Mène It was still at the beginning of his military career when, around 1862, a fall from his horse forced him to cease active service. He then devoted himself mainly to sculpture and produced animal models, sometimes hunting, which he melted in bronze. From 1865 until 1893, he participated many times in the Salon, where he exhibited his works. Some of them have been published in quite a number of copies and in several sizes.
