It is to Dr Negro's credit that this important 15th century painting has been brought back to the hand of one of the greatest artists of the 15th century, Giovanni Battista Ramenghi, known as Bagnacavallo Junior.

In the expertise Negro punctuates with certainty the attribution to the Bolognese master ".... To be convinced of the advanced attribution, it will be useful to compare the painting under examination with other very similar works by Bagnacavallo Junior, such as 'The Holy Family with the Saints John the Baptist and Catherine of Alexandria' (Dresden Gemäldegalerie), 'Cruxification between the Madonna and the Saints Peter, Paul and John Evangelist' (Chiesa di Sant'Isaia, Bologna) and especially the composition of 'an analogous subject, but different sizes (oil on panel, 95 cm x 81 cm, National Trust Arlington Court Chichester Collection, Devon which, according to Dr Negro "... “… è erroneamente attribuita a Bagnacavallo senior, mentre è una replica con varianti del dipinto in esame …”  http://www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/987430)".
