"Very Large Octant Date 1776"
THIS IS THE OLDEST FORM WE CAN HOPE TO FIND FOR THIS TYPE OF NAVIGATION INSTRUMENT. IT IS SIGNED BY TOMAS RIPLEY WHO COMPLETED IT ON OCTOBER 23, 1776 FOR JOHN GRIMES WHO ORDERED IT. THE BUILDING IS IN MAHOGANY AND THE LIMB WHICH IS IN BUIS IS DIVIDED BY THE TRANSVERSALS METHOD. IT IS RARE TO FIND SUCH AN ANCESTOR THAT IS ATTRIBUTED AND DATED. MUSEUM ROOM.
