Amsterdam, se, 1785; in-12, preface + 187 + 286 + 248 pp., full-calf period binding, ribbed spine, first covers stamped in gold with a dragon (binding to be reinforced, spine and jaws split, a detached cover). The author is a specialist in the question since he was employed at the French embassy in Constantinople and then in Crimea. Baron de Tott spoke Turkish and was well acquainted with the institutions and customs of Turkey. This work was translated and read throughout Europe.
