SILLERY (Mme la marquise de) - Religion considered as the sole basis of happiness and true philosophy. Orleans, From the printing press of Couret de Villeneuve, 1787; in-8, X + 415 pp + LXXXII pages of notes + errata and privilege, full binding in period speckled calfskin, spine decorated with five nerves, edges painted red, front cover decorated with a medallion with the school's coat of arms military royal of Pont-à-Mousson. Book made to be used for the education of the children of HSH Monsignor the Duke of Orleans, in which one exposes and one refutes the principles of the so-called modern philosophers. The author is better known under the name of Comtesse Félicité de Genlis. The Countess of Genlis took charge of the education of the children of Orleans, the most famous of whom, Louis-Philippe, later became king of the French. She has published numerous books including this one on children's education. This copy was donated by the wife of Marshal Gérard to Damvillers sur Meuse.
