Beautiful oil on canvas by James Pichette, signed lower right and dated 61. Dimensions with the frame 52/60 cm Painter born August 1, 1920 in Châteauroux. Brother of the poet and playwright Henri Pichette, French painter associated with the informal art movement. It was in 1942 that he began to paint figurative paintings then went through a cubizing period like most painters of his generation. In 1947, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Surindépendants, the same year he left for Italy and spent several months in Rome. His debut was encouraged by Gino Severini, Alberto Magnelli and Jacques Villon. He worked in the Cinécittà studios, where he produced his first abstract works tinged with surrealism. In 1950, he exhibited at the Vth Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. In 1952, he obtained a scholarship and left for the Netherlands where he became a resident of the Descartes house in Amsterdam, he became familiar with the works of Pietr Mondrian and Georges Vantongerloo. In 1952-1953, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. In 1960, he moved to New York where he met Sam Francis and Calder, he was also passionate about jazz and made friends with great musicians. From 1985, it is the beginning of his period "Jazz Space" theme which will occupy a long time his painting. His career has included numerous personal exhibitions in France and abroad. He died on August 2, 1996 in Paris. His works are in the collections of numerous museums in Germany, Belgium, Chile, United States, China, France, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands.
