  • >> Antoine-Mathieu CRIAERD
Antoine-Mathieu CRIAERD (also spelled Criard), is the son of the famous cabinetmaker Mathieu Criaerd, he was born in 1724. He received his master's degree in 1747. Two years later, in 1749, he set up his workshop in first rue de Charenton, then rue de Richelieu and finally rue Saint Thomas-du-Louvre before settling definitively on rue du Bac where he succeeded his colleague Charles Chevallier. It produces high-quality Louis XV period furniture, generally made of rosewood veneer, violet wood or leaf veneer, inlaid with flowers or branches in often raw and bumpy tones. Little is mentioned of Transition style furniture and no Louis XVI style furniture, which suggests that Antoine-Mathieu Criaerd did not continue his cabinetmaking activity for long. He died in 1787.
