Full of the frontispiece at the beginning of volume 1. Charles Palissot de Montenoy, born in Nancy on January 3, 1730 and died in Paris on June 15, 1814, is an unknown French playwright, admirer and disciple of Voltaire like Antoine de Rivarol, but often paradoxically denounced as opposing the philosophy of the Enlightenment, in particular for his criticism of Diderot and the Encyclopedists. He is the author of the comedy, "The Philosophers" which had an enormous success and caused a scandal in 1760. The best and most complete of Palissot's works.
