Object description :

"Set Of Two Louis XV Armchairs And Four Chairs, 18th Century"

Very nice set of armchairs and chairs called "caned", in carved and molded walnut.
They have a decoration of flowers and foliage on the backs, the crosspieces as well as the uprights of the feet.
These six seats have curved "roll-up" feet.
On the back of the seats, we will notice holes corresponding to a “lace trim”, a Lyon specificity very popular in the 18th century.

Historical annecdote:
Under the reign of Louis XV, it was the fashion for “frame” seats, the upholstery of which can easily be changed according to the seasons and the decorations.
The Lyon carpenters imagined “the lace trim because the armchairs with frames are too expensive for customers in the provinces. There are holes in the backrest, the belt and sometimes even the armrests. The trim is then fixed using straps tied together.
