Object description :

"Dague de vénerie Époque 1er Empire, bronze doré et nacre"
1st Empire period.
Iron, gilt bronze and mother-of-pearl
Total length : 75, cm ; L. of the handle : 17,5 cm
Blade length : 57 cm ; Scabbard length : 59 cm

The pommel and the guard are decorated with chiseled decoration of zoomorphic and vegetal motives realized according to the technique of the bronze cast with lost wax. The quillons appear two heads of hunting dogs reversed, the cruise presents on a side a head of boar and on the other a head of dog. The pommel is finely chiseled with a wolf's head. The shell represents a landscape flanked by trees, with a castle and a hunting scene.
The grey mother-of-pearl spindle is held in place by two bands of starred brass.
The polished steel blade is straight, finished in a point, with one edge, blued in third, with chased decorations and enhanced with gold.

The scabbard is made of wood and covered with black leather on the middle part. The chape and the bouterolle are decorated with gilded bronze trimmings. The bolt is incised with a hunting trophy. A place is provided for a cofferdam (missing). A ring of bélière.
