Object description :

"Naval Officer's Saber Prairial Year XII"
Prairial AN XII naval officer's board saber with gilded brass mount with a molded branch. Body bow engraved with a flag trophy stamped with an anchor. Half-mumps chiseled with a radiant sun. Lion's head cap says "à la Marengo" Ebony fluted obliquely. Slightly curved blade engraved with six subjects on each side including one to three stars as well as that of the main door. Black leather scabbard with two gilded brass fittings. Cope adorned with a double-tailed mermaid that supports the sun of the half-mullet when the saber is in the scabbard. Two side hooks are used to carry the saber in a harness. Long bouterolle adorned with a rush ending in a shell stinger.
