"Portrait Of Victor-emmanuel Ii, 1st King Of Italy (1861-1878)"
Glitzy, Exceptional and Rare portrait of Victor-Emmanuel II of Savoy, Vittorio Emanuele Maria Alberto Eugenio Ferdinando Tommaso, Prince of Piedmont (1831-1849), last King of Sardinia (1849-1861), first King of Italy (1861-1878) ), born March 14, 1820 at the Carignan Palace in Turin, Kingdom of Sardinia, died January 9, 1878 in Rome, buried in the Pantheon in Rome.Victor-Emmanuel II was the first king of unified Italy, heir to the prestigious house of Savoy, which reigned over the kingdom of Sardinia since 1720.
It is an admirable and historical portrait, where this king whom we love is here illustrated in full uniform wearing the gold necklace of Grand Master of the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation. He is shown three-quarters turned to his left, wearing his dark green uniform and a fur-lined cape over his shoulders. The confident gaze is severe and visionary from afar, just like his personality. He was a great man with a rustic appearance but so talented and efficient.
It was on March 17, 1861 that the National Parliament, meeting in Turin, proclaimed the birth of the Kingdom of Italy. Victor-Emmanuel II, King of Sardinia, Prince of Piedmont and Duke of Savoy, becomes the first “King of Italy by the grace of God and the will of the nation”.
ORDER OF THE ANNUNCIATION reorganized on June 3, 1859 by King Victor Emmanuel II, it is reserved for sovereigns and major figures.
For the little anecdote: On receiving the news of the death of Victor Emmanuel II, Queen Victoria wrote: "He was a strange man, savage and to some extent lawless in his passions (for women in particular) but a brave gallant soldier with a warm heart, honest and also a great energy of an exceptional capacity.
