"Aftafa Ewer, Tinned Copper, Eastern Iran, North-west Persia, 19th Century"
Aftafa ewer, in tinned copper, decorated on all sides, interlacing, botehs, fish, and calligraphy.
Our model probably comes from the North-West of Persia, eastern Iran, Azerbaijan.
The decorations present are similar to what can be found on Persian rugs, but also on rugs from the Caucasus so close.
This Aftafa ewer or jug is mainly used for ablution, washing the face and hands, during religious ceremonies.
