"Young Bacchus By Antonin Carlès"
Bronze statue showing a young Bacchus presenting from the top of his pedestal a beautiful bunch of grapes and holding a thyrsus (attribute related to the bacchantes). Bronze from the early twentieth century with a beautiful original patina, it is signed Antonin Carlès with the stamp of Colin in Paris. Jean-Paul Antonin Carles (1851/1919) sculptor of Gers origin began his training in Marseille and continued at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. It was in Paris with Jouffrroy and Hiolle that he refined his talent. His works are present at the Salon from 1878 to 1914. His success is confirmed by numerous commissions and his sculptures are visible in many public places such as the Tuileries Gardens, Luxembourg or in front of the New York Herald in the United States. Receiving a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1889, in 1913 he was promoted to Commander of the Legion of Honor.
