Photograph of Jacques Louis César Alexandre, Count Randon, Marshal of France (1795-1871) from the painting by Horace Vernet (1789-1863) illustrating the military's victories in Kabylia in 1857. This painting was donated by the Ministry state at the Versailles Museum in 1859, Napoleon III collection. The wooden and gilded stucco frame is surmounted by two saltire marshal's sticks (with eagles), count's crown. No decoration shown. Wreath of laurel leaves, Count de Randon's motto being "Do good, life is short". Protective glass. Dimensions of the photo, 39.5x25.5 cm Dimensions of the frame 70x54.5 cm Enlisted in 1811 in the Napoleonic army, Jacques Louis César Alexandre Randon (1795-1871) participated in the 93rd line regiment in the Russian campaign . Made available under the Restoration because of his Bonapartist opinions, he joined the army in 1830. General in 1841, Randon spent most of his career in Algeria where his administration was marked by numerous military expeditions. He was appointed Director of Algerian Affairs at the Ministry of War from March to June 1848, then Governor General the day after the coup, a post he retained for eight years. Marshal of France in 1856, he held the post of Minister of War from January 24 to October 26, 1851 and from May 5, 1859 to January 20, 1867. Replaced by Marshal Niel. Jacques Louis César Randon was the nephew of General Jean-Gabriel Marchand († 1851). On his death, he inherited his title of count and his domain and his domain of Saint-Ismier (Isère).
