Very beautiful still life with grapes, apples, quinces, watermelons, flowers and a basket of mushrooms placed on an entablature. Giovanni Paolo Castelli known as "Lo Spadino" (Rome 1659-Rome 1730) is an Italian painter who was mainly active in Rome. Giovanni Paolo Castelli comes from a family of still life painters. He was active in Rome where he was influenced by Abraham Brueghel. Castelli painted pictures of still lifes, fruit cups and flowers. His particular style employs a brilliant palette bringing out the outline of the fruits represented with meticulousness. Giovanni Paolo Castelli is considered by critics as one of the most important painter of Roman still life from the end of the 17th century. Oil on canvas of l 84cms x H 52cms The restoration of this work was entrusted to the workshop "Jaafar Lavergne" in Paris.
