"19th Century Italian Gilt Bronze Lantern With Lambrequin Decorated Glasses"
Lantern in Gilded Bronze with Decorated Glasses A charming antique Italian Lantern, a cast bronze cage hall lantern with extraordinary original mercury gilding dating back to the third quarter of 19th century.Italian origin, born for gas burning, realized around 1870 with great casting, richly chiseled with Rocaille style scrolling foliate motif and floral rose finial.
This lovely lantern features four shaped frosted glasses decorated with ornamental lambrequin motifs and ruby red and ocher yellow decorations.
Rewired, working for Italian standard with one Edison 27 light-bulb, it is in good age related condition, showing signs of wear and use.
One glass has a very minimal break in the upper right corner, two glasses are antique but we guess they are not the original ones, one has been hand painted in imitation of the originals, while another is a little bit matt. The four glasses are however consistent and these minimal differences are visible only to a professional expert eye.
