Object description :

"Théo Mayan (1860-1936), The Harvesting Of Olives."
Théo Mayan (1860-1936), The picking of olives. The picking of olives, Provençal Impressionist school, by Théo Mayan. Oil on canvas signed lower right of Théophile Henri Mayan dit Théo Mayan, Provençal impressionist born December 22, 1860 in Marseille and died in 1936. The picking of olives, features a group of young Provencal girls in costume harvesting the precious fruits to oil. Some perched on their escarassons to reach the highest branches, another tingles the ground so as not to lose anything when a mother lovingly holds the bag where her son proudly deposits the fruit of his labor. The action takes place in the plain of Orgon facing the Durance and Cavaillon. Picking olives at the end of summer continues the colorful poem that Théo Mayan composed in honor of Provence. There the painter encountered this painting of simplicity and labor on the way. Original frame in carved gilded wood in perfect period condition. Oil, countersigned on the back and dedicated by the wife to her children. Elzéard Rougier, great critic and great defender of Provençal culture said of Théo Mayan: "He is passionate about rural beauty, he studies it with love, he follows it enthusiastically through the golden broom along porcelain ponds. azure, in the small pine woods where the cicadas sing their song of ardent obsession. The Shepherds and Shepherds tempt and worry him. Who knows if Provençal painting will not find its Aubanel in him? »« This Provence is that of the plain. The Arles costume is still worn there with adorable elegance; Provençal is still spoken there in all its purity. This Provence has an aristocratic and at the same time familiar je ne sais quoi that inevitably tempted the delicate talent of Théo Mayan, one of the most sincere artists of our Provencal school of painting. »Dimensions: length 71cm by 56cm high. Oil in superb condition, perfectly restored, cleaning and varnish carried out according to the rules of the art. Period frame.
