WMF: Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik AG, is a German company founded in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige by Daniel Straub and the Schweizer brothers, specializing in silverware and metallurgy. By 1900, WMF was the world's largest producer and exporter of metal products for households, mainly in Art Nouveau. The artifacts were made of silver metal or pewter often combined with glass, bottle green or colorless in color. The period in which Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer and who was the director of the Art Studio WMF from 1884 to 1914, worked is the most remarkable. In 1905, WMF bought Orivit, a company known for its Jugendstil (German equivalent of Art Nouveau) products in pewter, followed a year later by the purchase of Orion, another German metal manufacturing company.
