"A Mid-19th Century Gold Snuff-box By Louis Tronquoy. "
A rectangular box with rounded corners. A lid, the sides and the base are decorated with floral pattern and the base has a similar decoration to the lid. The lid finely chiselled floral pattern centred with a shaped cartouche engraved with the initials "A.L".
W: 3.56oz (101g).
L:3.38in. (8,6cm) / l: 2.08in. (5,3 cm)/ H: 0.62in. (1,6cm).
Gold marks:
Guarantee mark: Head of an old man (1819-1838).
Guarantee mark for Paris: bull (1819-1838).
Eagle head. Gold 18K.
Goldsmisth: LT for Louis Tronquoy.
Louis-François, son of Jean-François Tronquoy and Louise Ferdinande Morinwas born on 20 May 1798 at 639 rue des 4 vents, 11e arrondissement, Paris. He first entered a mark for la tabatière on 4 January 1827 from 8 rue des Prouvaires, probably taking over the business and premises of the gold box-maker Simon-Achille Léger. Tronquoy continued to work at the same address until 28 June 1871.
