Henri Joseph Harpignies (1819-1916) born in Valenciennes (Nord) on June 28, 1819 and died in Saint-Privé (Yonne) on August 28, 1916 is a French landscape painter, watercolourist and engraver from the Barbizon School. His landscapes have a strong descriptive power and describe rows of trees and country roads. he went against the wishes of his parents who wanted him to pursue a career in business and began to study painting at the age of 27.
