"Charles Levier (1920-2003) Elegant At The Tea Room"
Subtle and refined this oil on canvas by the painter Charles Levier representing elegant women at the Tea Room. The work is offered without frame but this can change, it measures 73 cm by 100 cm, it is signed lower right. Charles Levier was born in Corsica in 1920, into a Franco-American family. He died in 2003. He studied at the National School of Decorative Arts but the war interrupted his studies and he joined North Africa to join. When the American troops arrived, his command of English enabled him to become a liaison between the French Army and the American Office of Strategic Services. At the end of the conflict, he did not resume his studies and settled in the United States. His works are part of the figurative movement of the Trente glorieuses. Inspired by Hollywood cinema, Charles Levier applies harmony and purity to his works, which represent a light and delicate world. The colors are shaded and nuanced, subtle. They very quickly seduce the American public, on the west coast at first, then in New York in the 1950s. At the same time, he exhibited in Paris. American collectors took a close interest in the artist and snapped up his paintings, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, and Prince Poniatoski.
