Alfred Lesbros (1873-1940) flag

Object description :

"Alfred Lesbros (1873-1940) "
SUPERB painting by Alfred Lesbros representing a still life with brass on a table circa 1900/1905, signed with the studio stamp at the bottom right + countersigned by the same stamp on the back + double stamp from the Atelier Millon sale and Associates of May 10, 2006 also on the back. I have the catalog of this workshop sale where we find this work reproduced in half color page, page 10 (see last photo), it was also sold very well for a workshop sale, in the 'state she had made 750 € + the expenses is a little more than 900 €. Format without frame 46x61cm. It is therefore indeed a magnificent divisionist composition by this excellent Provencal painter, he represents here a still life with brass. As usual during this period, which will last from 1897 to 1910, Lesbros uses a very divided touch, sometimes with a very rich material as we can see, and finally at this time he opts for a rich and colorful palette; Lesbros' works from this period are rather rare on the market. I no longer present Lesbros, a famous painter from Avignon, spearhead of the Group of Thirteen alongside Pierre Alexandre Belladen, Alfred Bergier, Lina Bill, Léon Colombier, Claude Firmin, Jules Flour, Joseph Hurard, Joseph Meissonnier and Louis Agricol Montagné. He is recognized for his very innovative work for the time, notably thanks to his minimalist stencils; his work is sometimes very similar to that of Auguste Chabaud, whom he obviously worked with. He had several periods, the 1st therefore this one from 1897 to 1910, then the stencils from 1910 to 1926, then the Blacks and Whites 1926-1927, Expressionist period 1927-1931, colored period 1932-1934, the white circles 1935-1936 , resumption of the colored period 1937-1938 and the black, blue and white circles 1939-1940. He attended several art schools as well as Provençal masters such as Jules Flour and Pierre Grivolas and was at the initiative of the exhibitions of the Group of Thirteen. The group organized a first exhibition on December 21, 1912 which was a great success, followed by a second exhibition on December 18, 1913, which was also the last. He will participate in the Salon de Lyon, the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and the Salon d'Automne. He painted more than a hundred works exhibited today in museums or public collections in Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Avignon, Marseille, Montpellier and Tournon. The Musée Calvet d'Avignon has: La Cour de la livrée de Thury, Le Jardin et Promenade. He underwent the artistic influences of the early twentieth century, from Impressionism to Cubism, which he retransmitted on his paintings with his Provençal temperament. It is about oil painting having mainly as subject of the landscapes. Techniques vary; thus we find the same view treated with different painting techniques: pointillism, realism, synthetism or even abstraction. From the 1920s, his subjects were taken around Graveson, Boulbon, Barbentane, Villeneuve-les-Avignon and even Avignon. Alfred Lesbros is buried in the Montfavet cemetery. This canvas is therefore in very good condition, delivered in a rather pretty old Montparnasse frame. Authentic guarantee
