the chancay culture developed between 1200 and 1500 following the collapse of the huari empire. it occupies the central coast of peru its name comes from the chancay valley north of lima. they turned their backs on the desert on the coast and were farmers.they are best known for the white ceramics with black geometric patterns .the shape of the vases is massive obtained by technical molding inherited from the daily chimneys pieces like the goblets and harres are simple and adorned with geometric patterns .the most elaborate pieces are the funeral urns, cuchimilcos, and anthropomorphic jar chinas whose eyes are outlined in black. a large quantity has been found in the necropolises of the Chancay and Chillon valleys. Illustrious dignitaries were buried with their faces covered in sumptuous masks and the body wrapped in textiles? these immense necropolises include primitive pits and more elaborate vaults here we have a funeral jar representing a hunter with a feline (jaguar?) on the shoulders. the eyes are underlined in black the shape of the legs is evoked on the body of the vase, provided with feet the voluminous shape of the vase is modeled like a hunter holding his trophy on his shoulders, the small head tilted to the left side and long linked limbs extended along the front and firmly grasped, the hunter has striped tattoos on his cheeks , a pastillage on the beard wearing a tunic, a single disc earring and a large disc attached to the bands around the turban. a TL test accompanies the piece provenanceMax Wilborg Sweden
