Lachenal Green Duck flag

Object description :

"Lachenal Green Duck"
This zoomorphic planter is a good illustration of part of the work of Lachenal, who produced several ducks and ducklings.
This version in shades of green is quite rare.
Two barely visible restorations on one leg, a small drop of enamel at the end of the right wing (see photos). The interior of the planter measures 11x9 cm with a depth of 8 cm. Edmond Lachenal is the pseudonym of Édouard Achille Lachenal, born in 1855 in Paris. He was hired by the ceramist Théodore Deck, of which he became the workshop manager. He received various distinctions and prizes at the Universal Exhibitions of Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1889 with a service performed for Sarah Bernhardt, with whom he would later perform in the theater. In 1881, he created his own workshop in Malakoff then moved to Châtillon-sous-Bagneux. In 1904, Edmond Lachenal gave up ceramics and passed on his workshop to his son Raoul to turn to comedy as well as to easel painting and pastel. In 1948, he died in Châtillon, where the Maison du patrimoine presents a collection of his works. Maurice Rheims pointed out that Lachenal had invented a matte enamel "in pastel, velvety and frosted tones" which allowed him to collaborate with other artists such as Hector Guimard and Auguste Rodin, completing their works with its very specific glaze and finish. Rodin also bought works in sandstone from him in 1895.
