"Knife Sharpener In Bronze On Marble - French Restoration Period / Louis-philippe - Early 19th Century "
Knife sharpener / sharpener, bronze on marble -
Restoration period / Louis-Philippe (early 19th century).
The sharpener is made up of two movable iron rollers with steel discs held between two highly decorated bronze support feet.
Very nicely worked decor, on either side of the branches of flowering rose bushes on a ground of acanthus leaves.
In view of the quality of this object, it is very likely that it was part of an office kit and was intended to sharpen paper cutters.
In fact, at the time, newspapers like (paperback) books were presented with uncut pages.
Good condition. Beautiful original vet bronze patina.
To note small égrenures of use in tie of the block of marble.
