The ornamentation of this piece of great finesse is composed of a decoration of 2 large different medallions, placed in an indigot blue field, surrounded by a large ocher and blue border decorated with stylized leaves.
the carpet is in good condition considering its age and has no restoration, the colors are bright and give it a magnificent character.
A very nice copy in its own juice which will appeal to the connoisseur. In the south-east of Iran, around the city of Kerman, live the semi-nomads of the Afshar tribe.
For a long time these nomads lived in northwestern Iran, but part of the population moved to the southeast where carpet making was an important economic sector. These rugs have red, ocher and blue undertones and the majority of them feature geometric patterns. The most common pattern used is a large central field with one or more square medallions.
This decoration is supposed to represent the skin of an animal stretched before being tanned. What is typical of Afshar rugs is that they are relatively wide in relation to their length. In the neighboring town of Shahr Babak, similar rugs are woven with a higher knotting density and with patterns very rich in detail. Afshar rugs are also marketed under the name Sirdjan Carpets.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
