Large and majestic chalice in sterling silver and vermeil with hallmarks of the city of Liège for the year 1757 and of the famous master silversmith Melchior Dartois. Although dating from the Louis XV period, it is still quite sober Louis XIV style with a baluster base. This is a fairly common phenomenon in religious goldsmithing where objects are often ordered to form a set with older liturgical objects or with existing furniture of a previous style.
