Important bronze after a model by Christophe Gabriel ALLEGRAIN (1710-1795) Venus au bain, or The bather signed on the base: GC-Allegrain - F (Fecit) Beautiful medal patina. 19th edition. Good condition, to report a small cast iron defect in the back on the left: see photos, not serious. Dimensions of the base: H 5 x 28 x 27 cm The bather in the bath is a sculpture commissioned in 1755 by the Marquis de Marigny, brother of the Pompadour and produced by the sculptor Christophe Gagriel Allegrain. The plaster was presented at the Salon of 1757 before the marble was presented at the Salon of 1767. King Louis XV then offered the marble sculpture to the Countess of Barry who installed it in his park in Louveciennes. It is currently in the Louvre Museum.
