Alexandre Lunois, born February 2, 1863 in Paris and died September 1, 1916 in Le Pecq, is a French painter, engraver, poster artist and illustrator, renowned for his lithographic color washes.
He uses lithography to interpret his own drawings: for this, he invokes an almost forgotten process, by treating the stone with a brush dipped in lithographic ink, in other words like a wash. The textures, shades, color contrasts obtained make his style unique.
He accumulates his series of prints in different states, and names them according to the regions visited.
He travels to Belgium, Holland, he then leaves for Algeria where he spends six months. He continues with Morocco (Fez, Tangier) then goes back through Spain, which he crosses cheerfully: the drawings accumulate, especially portraits, of women, children, of Cadiz, Granada, Toledo and Madrid. He did not return to Paris until the end of 1889. Works in many museums.
