"Primavera Modernist Art Deco Vase 1930"
Rare Art Deco period vase circa 1925-30 signed Primavera and numbered with a modernist cubic design in black and green crackle enamel decorated with a coloquinte-shaped pitcher with a high flared neck adorned laterally with an arched handle. In excellent condition, dimensions: 29.5 cm high x 16 cm wide. Created in 1912 on the initiative of René Guilleré, founder of the Society of Decorative Artists in order to develop modern decorative arts and promote their dissemination, the art workshop of the Printemps department stores, known as Primavera, should be noted that René Buthaud will be the artistic director of the Primavera workshops from 1924 to 1926 and will produce everything that contributes to the development of a house and especially ceramics, executed in small series by craft workshops or factories including Longwy, Quimper, Malicorne, Sainte-Radegonde and designed by decorators and potters named Jean Besnard, Colette Guéden, Guidette Carbonell and Madeleine Sougez among other signatures. The production, of an assertive modernity, composed of an original bestiary, cracked vases or decorated with dazzling colors, sometimes drawing from the sources of the far East, cheerful female figures and dishes with geometric patterns, the brand lived its finest hours in the Art Deco era
